Zsoldos vs. Internet

2012.03.13. 13:58 Deviáns szinglibolsilibsibibsi

Imádom a zembereket. Most nem azokat, akikről szeretett népvezérünk emlékezik meg állandó jelleggel, hanem úgy általában. Alább következik egy kivonat a reddit-en meginterjúvolt privát biztonsági céggel szerződésben álló, Afganisztánt és Irakot is megjárt, a köznyelv által zsoldosnak nevezett emberrel. Mivel aktív a mai napig, ezért egy "eldobható" felhasználóval (ő throwawaycontractor) bejelentkezve válaszolgatott a kérdésekre.

What's the #1 thing that made you proud to be a security contractor? Proud to be in the SF?
Flip side: What's the #1 thing that made you ashamed to be private security contractor? Ashamed to be in SF?
Also, if you had to choose between a thoroughly unjuicy orange, or a really mealy apple, which would it be?

I'm proud of my skills. Proud to have a life thats more exciting than most. As for my time in the military(I wasn't SF, I was a Recon Scout) I was proud mostly of my guys. Of the honor with which they lived their lives. Of how much of a brotherhood we have.

As for the shame. I'm not really ashamed by much but I am saddened by how a lot of people view my profession. I'm saddened by how the media falsely portrays the job. As for the military, I'm ashamed every time I hear of a soldier murdering someone. I ashamed that in 2009 we lost more soldiers and veterans to suicide than to combat. I ashamed that 75% of my unit is either divorced or gets cheated on by every girlfriend and fiance during deployment and Uncle Sam thinks that 12 month deployments are ok and not detrimental to the mental health of the troops.

I'd go with the orange. Stringy is more appealing than mealy to me. Strange question.

Because your job is a scam. Real soliders should be doing those jobs. Not contracting companies charging 10 times the price to make some rich guy richer.

Do I have to explain the yet again? My company contracts with the Dept of State. We do diplomatic security for State Dept diplomats. The DoS and DoD are two completely different entities. It is cheaper to do it this way. This way the DoS doesn't have to worry about logistics costs, healthcare costs, etc. Also it's more practical for the DoD as if my job didn't exist, they would not only have to worry about completing military objectives but they would also have to worry about doing my job.

You cannot explain away your uselessness.

[–]throwawaycontractor[S] 4 points
Right, so the diplomats should just have no security within high threat areas? We're useless and dont provide any service then?

Hát, igen. Ugyanmá', senki ne akarja bemagyarázni nekem, hogy ha ÉN eldöntöttem, egy bizonyos, nevezzük így, foglalkozás fölösleges, akkor az az, punktum, bárki bármit mond.

Do you think of yourselves as mercenaries? What are the differences between the two if not?

[–]throwawaycontractor[S] 29 points
Mercenaries are people paid for the express purpose of fighting a war they don't necessarily believe in. By that definition a large portion of the United States military are mercenaries. We're not paid for the express intention or job of closing with and destroying the enemy, we're paid to protect Diplomats. So we think of ourselves more as bodyguards than mercenaries.

"By that definition a large portion of the United States military are mercenaries."

That's not true; the US military isn't paid to fight a specific war. They don't pick and chose like mercenaries do. They fight for a specific country and are tasked out as the government deems. I know quite a few people who would take offense to that.

What? No. A mercenary is a professional soldier hired to serve in a foreign army. It's primarily focused on money not whether you support a particular war or not.

[–]throwawaycontractor[S] 4 points
By that definition, I'm DEFINITELY not a merc then. I don't serve in ANY army.

[–]arasmussen -6 points
You're hired by the US Gov, you're part of them through your contractor, you are a mercenary.

Cool story bro

Yes everyone downvote me for stating the truth, stupid fucking neckbeard faggots.

Love how you said "innocent." Define innocent?

People not trying to kill me.

Csípem a csávót.

Az "interjúhoz" egyébként innen jutottam.
